Get Your NRA Basic Pistol Certification While At Marble Mountain Ranch
This course is offered as an upgrade to to your 5 night/ 6 day itinerary and is taught by ranch staff NRA certified instructors. The Basic Pistol Certification Course will teach the skills, knowledge, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely and responsibly.
Course Lessons are taught in conjunction with the normally scheduled shooting range events but incorporate additional instructional time during your stay at Marble Mountain Ranch. These additional class hours are during those periods where there are no scheduled main activities that you would be forced to miss if you choose to upgrade with this class. These times include short evening classes either before or after the dinner hour.

Basic Pistol Course Outline
- Pistol Knowledge and Safe Handling
- Ammunition Knowledge and Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
- Firing the First Shots
- Two-handed and One-handed Standing Shooting Positions
- Pistol Sports and Activities
Additional course content will include proper storage and maintenance of pistols, pistol selections, and other topics as directed by student interests.
This is approximately a 10 hour course that includes classroom and range time. Your class hours will include times that are inclusive of your group range schedules as well as stand-alone class/range time exclusive to the students that have signed up for this certification.
Basic Pistol Course Cost
The fee for this course is currently $100 and is offered to ranch guests at $75 / person as an upgrade to your normal package fare. Your fee includes the course handbook, all printed material, and handgun ammo for pistols provided by us. You will need to bring correct ammo for pistols brought by you to the course. Pistols brought by you will need to be secured properly while at the ranch and be kept separate from your ammo.
Basic Pistol Course Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for taking this course. An open mind, a positive attitude, and eagerness to learn always helps.
At the end of the class there is a short written test on the lesson material. Don’t worry! We work with you to make testing fun and easy to pass. At successful completion of the course, you will receive a course completion certificate. We also offer coaching and constructive criticism during the live fire exercises.
NRA Basic Pistol Course FAQs
Who may take the basic pistol course? – Any person who is legally eligible to possess a pistol. We do require that anyone under age 18 take the course with a parent or legal guardian.
What is the difficulty level of the course? – The course is perfect for the beginner or new pistol owner. This is also a great course if you plan on getting your concealed carry permit or just need a refresher.
Do I need to bring my own pistol to take this course? – No. Ranch pistols and ammo will be provided for the course. However, you may bring your own pistol (and correct ammo) to the course. We ask that you bring your pistol unloaded and in a case. You must keep it secured during non-class hours. Some options for security include locking it unloaded in your car with ammo separated, or placement in our ranch gun safes. You may also want to bring extra magazines or a speed loader, and a holster. You will need to wear a ball cap, safety glasses, and hearing protection during live fire exercises. We provide eye and ear protection for those that do not care to bring their own. Also note: NO LIVE AMMO IS ALLOWED IN ANY NRA CLASSROOMS, but obviously it is a component of our live fire range time.
Does this course require a textbook? – Yes, “The Basics of Pistol Shooting” will be provided to each student.
